Basanites is a coffee table featuring a marble top and a handcrafted SPLOT® base, equipped with hidden wheels for effortless mobility. Beyond its use in living rooms, its sculptural presence makes it a perfect mobile pedestal for art or a versatile centerpiece in a corporate lounge, adapting to every moment of daily life.
The name Basanites draws from basalt - the primordial, timeless rock - and the memory of the Via Emilia, the ancient Roman road crossing Emilia Romagna. It bridges the gap between historical territory and contemporary design.
This project originated from a desire to celebrate Italian heritage through noble materials. The client sought an object that whispered of the basalt-paved Roman roads while maintaining a clean, essential aesthetic. Born as a tribute to the durability of tradition, Basanites is a bespoke narrative where history meets modern aluminum weaving.
The SPLOT® base features a specialized weave inspired by the technical texture of carbon fiber, where alternating strips create a rhythmic, contemporary visual movement. This texture contrasts beautifully with the solid materiality of the marble top, balancing structural strength with visual airiness.
Drawing from the engineering precision of ancient Roman infrastructure, the design translates the ruggedness of the Via Emilia into a refined domestic object.
Basanites is currently available in two sophisticated finishes: the deep, intense Black Abatellis and the warm, enveloping Brown Medici.
Fully customizable in color combinations and dimensions, it represents a tailored solution for architects seeking a blend of authentic Italian soul, functional versatility, and timeless artisanal excellence.
